PRESENTATION TO MR TEMPLER.
Thb Hamilton Choral society met last night for their final practice for the open air concert, which is to take place on Tuesday evening next, in aid of the funds of the Hamilton Band, During the course of the practice a presentation of a silver-mounted baton was made to Mr Templer, the conductor. Mr Sarnies in making the presentation said Mr Templer, as this is probably the last time this Society will meet for practice under your conductorship I have been requested by the members to carry to yon their regret that yon are about to taka your departure from amongst ns. During your three years’connection with this society we can but say that we have derived great pleasure and profit from your instructions, and we feel that thanks to your zeal, energy, and pains-taking cave, we have been much improved in matters musical. Wherever your duty calls yon we shall always be pleased to hear of your and Mrs Tempi er’s welfare, and in saying farewell to yon as onr conductor, we can but wish you a hearty God speed, and a Merry Christinas and' Happy New Year. I have now much pleasure on behalf of the society, in presenting yon with this baton, as a token of their esteem and regard, and hope that yon may be long spared to wield it for the benefit of whatever community yon may be placed amongst. Mr Templer, who was taken completely by surprise, replied briefjy in very feeling terms, saying lie was quite at a )oss tq express himself in a fit manner fop tljo kimj present made to him, which ha woqld .always value very highly.
