CONFLICTING FESTIVITIES.

TO THE EDITOE. Sin,—Gan nothing bo dope to avert a .calamity? as I consider the biding of sports jif fjihikihf on Boxing I)ay, a most unfortunate ajiaiy. I yic f pdcy at the people ot Kihikihi pot s eejng it, #3 fypy are usually credited with being a cleap and far seeing penpie. Let ifle just put forward a few facts that will go towards proving my assertions. Why a calamity ? Hexing Day the Alexandra folk have for year# past had sports, and which have always bean vyeif patronised. On tho same day this year a grand i*etc jjpd Carnival will take place at Cambridge, h'nw hi} th ot those events will nndonbtly attract a large number, and of course some from tviliikihi and neighbourhood, who

would otherwise patronise Kihikiki, and the sports at the latter place will not he of such a character ns to compete with Alexandra or Cambridge. My only reason for writing now, is that the Kihikihi people may receive due reward and encouragement for their efforts, and I predict that if they insist on Boxing Day they will bo disappointed by the meagre attendance. I hope it is not too late yet to alter the date, and I would humbly suggest Wednesday, 28th inst., or Wednesday, 4th January, either of those days would be infinitely more suitable (for the reasons given) than Boxing Day as there is nothing taking place elsewhere to interfere. Apologising for trespassing on your valuable space.— Yours lie., CoWAL.
