A NATIVE WOMAN BURNT TO DEATH.
Inspector Kieley received a telegram last night from Constable Lowther at Alexandra, reporting that a native woman named Ihipeva, living at Tawhiao’s settlement, Whatiwbatilioo, had been burnt alive in her whare sometime during the afternoon of Saturday last. Tho natives had taken the remains and buried them. Mr Kieley has instructed the constable to make full enquiries into the affair with a view to ascertaining if it was the result of an accident or otherwise.
