FOOTBALL.
Waiteti v- Hamilton,
The above match was played on Sydney Square yesterday, and ended in a draw, eacli side securing a try. The game was played all through in a most friendly spirit and with the best of temper. For Waitcti, Clarkin was captain, and the following were his team:-F. Odium, Quinn (2), Anderson, K. McKenzie, W. Davis. Stewart. Champion, Lyons, Billing, Lennihan, Phibs, Hand and Conroy. Hamilton was represented by W. Odium (captain). J. Odium, Mclntyre, Box, Cribble, Hopkins, Hammond, Jolly, Manktelow, O’Xeill, Rutherford, Wright, Bindon, Mayes, and Gwynne. The Waiteli team were the stronger of the two, and in the scrums their weight told, whilst the back play of Hamilton was a bit better than theirs. Gwynne got the try for Hamilton and Hammond took the kick, but failed at goal. Billing obtained the try for Waitcti, but the kick at goal was not a good one, and thus the game ended in a draw. To-day the Waiteti men play Cambridge and return home on Monday. Messrs H. Biggs and Stevens acted as umpires and Mr K. Pilling as referee, giving general satisfaction. The spectators were very impartial in their applause, each side being cheered in turn, and, taken altogether, the game was one of the most enjoyable ever played in Hamilton. lam sure that the Waitcti men will always receive a good reception from Waikato footballers as long as they continue to play the fair, honest game they now play, and Clarkin deserves great credit for the good discipline shown by his men. Full Back.
