Raglan MattersMr Ballance lias been busy receiving deputations, to-day's deputation consisting of Mr T. B. Hill, J.P., R. Keesing, W. Duncan, J.P., and Mr Polandcr waited upon him to bring under his notice matters of importance to the township of Raglan. The chief object was to induce the Government to purchase from the Hon. Mr Chaniberlin a block of 2000 acres around Raglan township, and settle it. They stated that Mr Cha-mberlin was willing to sell it at a reasonable figure. Mr Ballance stated that the Government were preparing a. bill which would enable settlers to acquire such lands for themselves. Whenever the Government bought land they had to pay more than private persons. The bill would be circulated before Parliament met. Mr Hill asked if the Government could not do something re a grant for roads to Firewood Creek. At present settlers were entirely indebted to Mr Rathborne. Mr Ballauce replied, if they would write to him on the subject he would see what could be done. The Native MinisterMr Ballatico left Auckland by the Arawata at l> p.m. for the Bay of Islands, where ho proceeds on the invitation of the Chief Maiiii Paraone to meet the Ngapuhi tribes ot Waita-ngi, in order to discuss native and land matters. Should time permit Mr Ballance will also visit some of the special settlements, and return to Auckland on Thursday or Friday, in order to proceed to Wellington.
