New Perry Service. Auckland, Wednesday Night. The first ferry strainer for the new North Shore Ferry Company was launched today. She will steam 14 knots, And will run in opposition to the Devonport Ferry Company's steamers during the Christmas holidays.
The Ponsonby Reservoir. The contractor for the Ponsonby Reservoir is willing to make the nece^ary alterations for securing the stability of the re.-.er-voir without any additional cost to the
city. The New Mayor. Mayor Devore wan installed to-day. In sketching a programme of municipal expenditure for the ensuing year, he said £10,000 would be saved in salaries and .street expenditure.
The Grammar SchoolThe Grammar School governors have offered the position of secretary to Colonel Haulton.
Juvenile Thieves. At the Police Court to-day three juvenile fruit pilferers were ordered to be whipped.
The Coming Races. Nelson did splendid work at Ellerslie today, but Fusil.ide, though fancied, does not please the touts. Clog.s is said to have done a great trial on the Otahuhu course, where .she ia being trained. Victoria is now apparently sound, and is a probable starter for the Cup.
