TE AWAMUTU. Meeting of the Show Committee.
A mektino of the committee was held in the hall on Monday evening, 13th inst. Prosent : Messrs Walton (chairman), Bolor, Hutson, Col. Smith, Ryburn, Johns, Sorby, J. H. Scott, Moody, Wright, Teasdale and Westney, Apologies were received from some absent members of the committee. The notice calling the meeting having been road, th« minutes of tho previous meeting was read and confirmed. It was proposed and carried that Mr W. Taylor be «lected chairman and Mr Walton vice-chairman and honorary secretary. The prize schedules of the two former shown having been discussed, some additions were made, and a list of prizes made up, based upon the lines of the schedules referred to. This was handed over to a subcommittee for revision and printing, such cornmitteo to take steps to complete the list of special prizes, some of which have already been promised as follows : — By Mr Cottrell : For the best homemade four pound loaf, not made by a professional baker, ss. For the be*t six yellow globe mangolds, 2s fid. For the best twelve swede turnips, 2a 6d. For the best sack of potatoes, 3s. For tho best bunch of m\ white carrots, 2i ; all to b« in competition, cif.e and shape to be the test. By Major Jackson : 10s to be allocated by the committee. By the Roy. Mr Boler : Two occasional tables, value one guinea each, one each for bent
collection of pot plants iind cut flowers. .By W. S. Laurie and Co., as agents for 'Anglo-Continental guano and superphosphate works, one bag of Peruvian (4o\ eminent sruano, to be allocated by tbe comtnittee, which they did by offering it for the best collection of Hold roots, three of each. W. S. Laurie and Co., £1, also allocated by the committee for the bust bushel of milling wheat of any kind. J. H. Scott, ss, for bent collection of Waikato grown nuts. Through Mr Ryburn, £5, to be given in two prized, first of £3, and necond of £2, for the four be.it factory oheesea of 20lbs and upwards ; cheeses to be made on four differrent days. The Rev. Mr tioler stated that Mrs Boler intended to give a prize for the beet hand-made shirt and hand-knitted pair of stockings, competitors to be under 18 years of age. Mr Teasdale, a suit of clothes or a dress, value JL'2, for best collection of articles of natne manufacture, competition to be confined to native exhibitors. Mr Wright, 10s, for best collection of black oats ; Mr J. H. Scott nUo offered prizes of 5h for the best HI In eaoh of dried apples and peaches, and 10-> for boHt home-made cheese of 101b* and unw.it ds. Several others intt mated their intention of giving prizes, but had not yet decided upon the nature of the exhibits for which the.v would lie pre«ente<]It will be seen from the foregoing list of special prizes that the donors do not intend confining their presentations to horticultural exhibits only, but offer them for articles of home-made manufacture, quite as important in th^ir own way as horticulture.
