TE AROHA. [FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] T e Aroha, Friday.
Thi: Hop. P. A. Buckley arrived here by rail from Auckland ye*teiday, and met some lelatives who have lately been on a visit to the bathv Dining the afternoon he went over the domain grounds in company with the chairman of the b.iard, Mr ii. Wilson, and expressed himself is being much plea&ed with the improvements that have been made since his last \i-it to To Aroha. In the evening he was waited upon by a deputation fiom tho domain boaid, consisting of the chairman and Messrs Ahier and <,Jiiinn, for the purpose of submitting to him the necessity for obtaining Government aid to cany out the improvements that were vet required at the baths. A statement of the pioposed woiks, as approved by Mr Gordon, the Government engineer, was produced, and the necessity for having them completed at as eaily a date as possible was strongly urged by the deputation. MrG. Beetham, AI.H.R. who has been here for -oms time on a Msit to the Springs, and who was present at the interview, spoke warmly in support of the claims of the board, and also referred to thp glowing importance of the bath*, and their great public usefulness. Mr Buckley, in reply, said the matter did not properly belong to his department, but he was most fa.wnua.bly impressed with what had been stated, and would on his return to Wellington, bung the claims of the board before ln>? colleague the hori. Minister for Lands-, and would do all in his powei to fuither the wishes ot the board. He also stated that he had been much pleaded with the domain and its sin rounding-, and would be glad to ,-cc the whole of the vve-t -ide of the mountain included in the reserve, so that the timber, which added so much to its beauty might be secured from attack. The deputation thanked the Minister for his com tesy and then withdrew. Two other deputations waited on the hon. gentleman in the course of the evening, con sisting respectively of promoters and opponents of the borough movement, both of which were courteously listened to and received the assurance that the Government was animated by the strongest desire to do what was best for the good of the place, and that the matter would receive his earnest consideration, when the petitions for and against the borough were laid before him, on his return to Wellington. Mr Buckley leaves by train to day, en route for Rotorua, but intends returning to Te Aroha on Monday or Tuesday ne\t. Mr Fuller, school inspector, held the annual examination of pupils attending the distiict school yesterd.iv. The whole of tho results are not yet known, but in the low or standards the examination was exceedingly satisfactory, for out of foity-five children presented in Xos. 1 and 2. forty three passed. The inspector was much pleased with the ordeily behaviour of the children, and expressed his satisfaction with the dis iphne maintained in the school by the head teacher, Mr Marsden. It is repotted th.it a company is about to be formed in Auckland for the purpose of erecting hero a large sanatory establishment in connection with the baths, and that a thoroughly competent medical man of large hydropathic experience will be placed in ehaige. Such an institution ia greatly needed.
