NOTES FROM ALEXANDRA. [FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Alexandra, October 18.
Thk evidence of the various claimants to land in the King Country before the court now being held at Otorohanga, before Judge Mair was concluded on Friday last, and the court adjourned until Tuesday, (to-day), when the court will give it s judgment as to who are the owners of the immense block of land, some millions acres which has been investigating. There is great and intense, although suppresed, excitement in the native mind, as may be supposed, re the diciaion of the court, and also I believe in those of many Europeans. Constable Jones on the information of Tnahu, a native residing at Whatiwhatihoe, arrested four lads at that settlement on Wehnesday, charged with the larceny of a pig. The prisoners were brought up next morning before Messrs G. T. Wilkinson and J. D. Hill, J.P., and charged with the offence. From the evidence of the prosecutor it appeared he met the prisoners, Te Maipi, Hiku, Tuheka, and Tuokai, on the prceeding evening coming into Alexandra with a pig. On seeing him, however, they let it go. It being dark he did not recognise the pig, but next morning mining his own pot pig from his place, he went to Alexandra to look for it, and found that Mr W. Oliver had purchased his pig from the prisonpr.s for Bs. He accordingly gave iuforin.ition to the policeman, and had prisoner arrested. He, however, was now satisfied, as he had been paid two houses and two c >\v<3 ««,-> " utn " by prisoners nnd their friends, so withdrew the charge. The Court pointed out that prosecutor was as bad as the prisoners in condoning the ielony. However, as they were all young lads, the night spent in the lock-up would be a warning to them. They were accordingly dismissed.
