A man named Fipps, cook on board the brig Wave, met with a seiious accident this morning. He was working a hand wrench while loading tallow, when the man on tho second handle missed hold, and the barrel of the wrenrh flew round and the handle struck Pipps on the forehead, smashing it in, the brains protruding. He is not expected to recover. Tho Colonial Engineer reports that it will cost a good deal to repair the damage done to th*- 1 Oamaru breakwater in the tecent gales, and 112200 more to make it safe against future damage. A spit has formed round the head of the breakwater, but it can be leinoved by dredging from time to time.
