ALEXANDRA NEWS. [FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.]

Another dull week' here, although the weather has greatly improved, and out-door work has been going on briskly. At Otorohanga, the court is still sitting, but drawing to a close. The Ngatihikaiero claim at Kawhia ia far from a modest one. John Cowell is evidently "making a try" as the natives say for a fluke. It extends from Kawhia to Te Awamutu, from thence nearly to Otorohanga. He was under examination for three days, and is being opposed by Major Te Wheoro as well as the Ngatimaniapoto. The few Whatiwhatihoe natives that remain thero are busy getting in their crops. Tawhiao has not returned yet frjm Tauranga, but is daily expected. His son, Tv Tawhiao, is reported to be somewhat better in health since the natives removed him on to higher ground, on one of the spurs leading to Pirongia. j We haven't succeeded in raising a real crocodile or alligator here yet, but there is a sudden appearance of frogs in all ditections from Alexandra up to and beyond Kopua. They have been in the swamp in the Government paddock, where they were introduced for some time, but this spring their discordant ' croaking is heard the whole distance I have mentioned, where they were not known before. How they travel is a puzzle, but there they are, and that too in considerable numbers from the noise they make of an evening. It is mean of the Railway Department, after raising our hopes by announcing a reduction of the railway fares, to grant us such a concession an 3d and 2d on the journey. Slate thorn ! Mr Editor, slate them [—(Correspondent.)

E Cookson, Waiorongomai, has filed a petition in bankruptcy. First meeting advertised in another column. Governor Hill has signed tho Bill limiting the term of which a mm may be imprisoned for debt in New Yoik to uix monthfj
