TE AROHA.
[IBOM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.! Tk Aroha, Monday. Thk regular monthly meeting of tho domain board took plaoe on Haturd ly evening, the following members bmng present : Messrs Wilson (chairrnui), Aluer, Gavin, and Qainn. Telegrams were road fr<«in the Under-Secretary of the Linda Department to the chairman of the board, with reference to tho appointment of Professor Cadman, and the letting of the right to advertise within the d'Hiiiin. From the tone of these telegrams it m,iy be assumed that the mutton of fche boaid is not altogether approved of by tho hon. Minister for Lands, and they lead to the inference that Government is opposed to granting the use of the grounds, or the buildings within the domain for any business purpose. Replying to an application made by the board for money to carry out further improvem.ents at tho baths, th,e XJnder-Seor«-tary wired on October Ist to the Chairman : '* Hon. Minister of Lands has considered application of domain board for further money. He regrets that the state of the vote for thermal spring* will not admit of further contributions to To Aroha. Vote included liabilities entered into before 31st March last, and £600 on that account was paid to Te Aroha Board out of present vote. Minister considers the board should now bo able to efficiently catry on the baths without further aid from Government, as it has a good yearly revenue." In accordance with instructions given at the recent special meeting the olerk submitted a statement of the board's liabilities to date, showing the amount of indebtedness to be £115 in excess of the funds at present available. The motion re advertising, of which Mr Ahier had previously given notice, was next gone into, but the discussion thereon was conducted privately. After a lengthened consideration of the subject the board deqided that owing to the, refusal of Government to grant a further subsidy it was necessary to retrenah as much as possible, and a resolution wai adopted, " That advertising be discontinued from this date, and notice of same be sent to the newspapers." It was also resolved that the officer of police be requested to have the grounds patrolled at night, in order to provent the destruction of trees and shrubs, which of late has not, it seems, been an infrequent occurrence. The meeting adjourned till Tuesday evening, when the replies to be sent to the telegrams from the UnderSeqretary for Lands will be considered,
