WAIKATO COUNTY COUNCIL.
The usual monthly meeting of the council was held at the chambers, Hamilton East, yesterday. Present : Mr A. Primrose (chairman), Crs. Barugh, Seddon, Graham and Johnson. Public Drain. — The Cambridge Board applied to the council to proclaim a public drain, near Selby's. The Clerk said it was necessary for the county to proclaim the drain but the board was of course willing to undertake all work in connection with it. The council could delegate their powers to the board.— The engineer paid he had looked up the Act, and found the council could accede to the application without making a drainage map of the whole county. It was resolved to accede to the application. Hospital and Ch.mutaiu.k Am.— The clerk read a claim from the Auckland Board, demanding the sum of £277 14s 4d for hospitals, and £222 3s (id for chaiitable aid. Thes>e amount* added to the sum already paid in th<» tthape of subsidies made n tot.il of 4''»<>H 10s od. This on a population of 30l>l meant 4s 4^d per hu.id, nr on inal» ionly, Hi*)!), Ss O^d. Allowing for tho coot of four doctors at, say, £')00 |»» j r annum each, the co-t for hoipit.il*, ch.uit.ible aid, medical advice, &c, amounted to about 21^ per head on the male population. — TlicCli.iiimui said the council would of course do in>thing pending tin 1 insult of the test api «\i] to be made by the Waipa Council. — Cr. Seddon said the resolution come to a-t tlie dtjlcg.itos meeting was in accordance with th« proposal of the council. He watt comincod that the money would have to be paid, but no harm would result from the action piopoflud to bp taken. Local Govkunmkxt Statists. —lt was decided to purchase the volumes of Loral Government Statutes, in preparation by Mr Wilfred Bailor, Chri*tchurch. Works in Kangiriri Hiding.— A peti tion was received fiom a number of .scttlei*, residing in the Whangamanno district, asking tho council to make the road from the i iver to the Whangamarino station. The engineer was instructed to examine and report on the road. The engineer was aKo instructed to see to some repairs at Huntly and some other small works in the same riding. Accounts. — A number of accounts wen 1 parsed for payment. Thk Camhriihjk Bohoi'i.ii.— The Chairman .said now that the town district of Cambridge had b«en formed into a borough it would bo necessary to make a financial settlement as between tho borough and the county. They would require to appoition the burdens entailed by borrowing under the Roads and Bridges Act. Ho thought it would be well to instruct tho clerk to examine the accounts, and bring up a statement snowing the exact position of affairs. — This was agreed to. After some further routine business the council rose.
