LECTURE AT TE AWAMUTU.
Mr Moss delivered his lecture on " Failure" on Tuesday evening. Tho lecture, which ho read, was prepared with a view of showing what indomitable pluck and energy will do in spite of repeated failures. Many such instances were cited. He said that success was not in all cases due to merit and ability, but the world frequently mistook audacity and push for thoso virtues, and by sheer effrontery some pushed themselves into prominent or lucrative positions. During the lecture the speaker's frequent pointed and humorous illustrations elicited considerable merriment. At the close he recited a poem on the sad fate of Mary Queen of Scots, and some extracts from the trial scone in the ''Merchant of Venice." Mr Wat-skiff sang a song in praL->o of a pretty girl, a good hor*e and good wine. There was a fairly good attendance, but the roads being bad no doubt prevented many others coming.
