Arrived : P. and 0. Company* Thames, with the English mails ; North German Lloyd's steamship Lubeck, intended for the Sydney and Samoan trade. A telegram published in the Argus to-day from Auckland states that the New Zealand Government is opposed to any arrangement regarding the cable between Australia and New Zealand except that originally proposed, namely, a renewal of the subsidy for five years, but it is understood in Melbourne that the cable company would accept a renewal for that term, and grant a reduction tariff if the formrr proposals of the Government wen* now renewed.
