WELLINGTON, Sunday. It is understood that a Southern contractor has secured the Gorge contract of the Napier-Palmerston line. The price is said to be about £79,300. The weather has now cleared up, and is beautifully tine.

CHRISTCHURCH, Sunday. The Premier and Colonel Whitmore arrived here last night and inspected the Hospital this morning The weather has cleared, and is now beantifully fine. On Friday the captain of the rteamer Akaroa, when passing the headland between Port Levy and Pigeon Bay, discovered a big slip in the northern face of the mountain, extending fiom the summit to the b.ise, a height of 1000 feet. A strange rambling was heard in Lyttelton on Friday morning, and is supposed to have been caused by this slip

NAPIER, Monday. Fifteen Salvationists were charged today with a breach of the anti-procession by-law, and fined 3s and costs, or 4S hours. In thp course of the case, one of the defendants said the devil made the laws and the magistrate fired the balls. He was ordered down for contempt, but l>efore tht* rising of the court lie apoloyi?ed, and was let off. Several defendants elected to take it out in caol. On the cjurt ri*inc, the Salvationist", who had marched with music and banner to the court, again inarched round and knelt down in the street, showing their contempt for the decision of the Resident Magistrate.
