Thf approaching football nmtch between Auckland and Wellington is exciting the greatest interest here, and no effort will be spared to send the bent team. Wellington's chief strength will bo in forwards. A young man named Robert Wolby, employed at Luke and S»ihT foundry, was severely injured to-day by a catting falling upon him. It is feurod that he has received concussion of the brain. There h still no news of the missing man, A. Levy. The police authorities in Sydney have hewn communicated with to ascertain if he is on the Hauroto, but no reply has been received. At tho Supreme Court F. \V. Caroll and John OBrien for larceny were convicted and remanded for sentence. Henry Field pleaded guilty to a charge of larceny. Sentence was deferred. Mr Rochefort, the Government engineer, writing 1 from Karoi, states that on the 7th instant he k\w ft column of steam ri"»im? from Ruapohu in the early ntorning. Towards evening he observed smoke coming from the same mountain. The natives in the \ icitiity are alarmed after the recent Tarawera eruption.
