The medal awarded by the Canterbury St. John's Ambulance Society to Mr Mcltae for his heroic efforts for Having life at Wairoa was pinned on the breast of the gallant recipient at Government House by the Governor, who accompanied the presentation witli some well-chosen eulogistic words. The medal is of gold, with this inscription :— " To J. Mcßue, for services rendered at Wairoa, June 10th, 1888."
