A repoit of the previous year's proceedings was read by the chairman of the outgoing board From this it appears that the board had endeavoured to extend the boundaries of the district by taking in a portion of Te Akau, but had not m far succeeded. A strong recommodation was given to bring the Counties Act into force, as being the best step to take for the interest of the district. Reference was made in the report to tha great injustice of the Hospital and Charitable Aid Act of last session, as being a pauper making ordinance. As it was more than likely the Counties Act would be in force soon, the county should administer charitable aid. On their application, the Government had granted a reserve round the Whaingaroa Hot Springs of 226 acres. They had applied for 5000 * acres more as a reserve to secondary education. In conclnding, the chairman said the thanks of the ratepayers were due to their clerk, Mr Cogswell, for hit excellent services. Mr Wilson said they should take the opinion of those present upon bringing in the Counties Act. A very full discussion then took place in which Messrs Robertson, Sutton, Moon, King, J. K. McDonald and others took Mr McDonald proposed and Mr Sutton seconded, '• That it is in the opinion of this annual meeting of the ratepayers of the Whaingaroa Road Board District, that the Counties Act be brought into operation and road boards abolished.' — Carried almost without dissent. A circular from the Mayor of Hamilton on Hospital and Charitable Aid having been read, a statement was made by Mr McDonald, delegate to the Hamilton meeting, as to the action taken. The meet~ing by resolution endorsed the action of J their delegate. Mr Pegler, as member of the United Hospital Board, having tnnde a statement to the meeting, a vote of thanks was given to him for his service* in the board and on behalf of the district. . A resolution was passed that the aaminutraties of charitable aid be left to local bodies ; also another requesting the member for the electoral district to support the came to the best of bis ability.

The first meeting of the new board then took place. Mr Sutton was elected chairman. Mr King applied for a road into his homestead land. The board decided to inspect the bcality and take action at the next meeting. , A vote of thanks was passed to Mr Knox, whilst acting as Mayor of Hamilton, for bavin? requested Mr Ballance to use his influence with the Government to get £1000 spent upon the Waipa-Ruglan Road.— (Own Correspondent.)
