Cruelty Punished. Auckland, Wednesday Night. W, H. Martin, a settler at Mount Albert, wai fined £15, and £11 co»ts, for cruelty to a pig in scoring it down the back with a knife to mark it, at the Epsom saleyardu.
Drowned. A coal trimmer, named Robert Dudlow, fell overboard from the Arawata on her voyage from Russell to Auckland. Hearch was made for three-quarters of an hour, but was unsuccessful.
The Tainui. The direct steamer Tainui left Hobart for Auckland at 2 p. in. yesterday.
