TAWHIAO'S MEETING AT WHATIWHATIHOE. [FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Alexandra, April 1.

Therk are some 500 natives now assembled at Whatiwhatihoe for Tawliiao's meeting. As yet little has been done. The proceedings were commenced yesterday by Kerei Kaihau reading tbe Treaty of Waitangi, in tho old, old manner. Major Te Wheoro asked all to consider what steps should novy bo taken to get the redress that the natives consider they are entitled to from the manner that treaty has been broken by the Government. This was all the business that day. The question was loft open for consideration, and tho arrival of other expected natives. To-day tho food was divided, but no speaking took place. Paora Tuhaere arrived, but Sydney Taiwhauga, from impecuniosity, had to remain behind, the Rail way Department having grossly neglected to .supply him with a free pass. The glory of native meetings has departed, and the profits too—so say our townsfolk. Instead of our stores and pubs being full and over of business an of yore, hardly a native is to be seen beyond our usual visitors to the settlement. Some hundreds of loaves have been disposed of, but nothing else. To-morrow the business of the meeting will commence ; the result, I expect, will hardly be phenomenal. The lower Waikato people have not yet put in an appearance, and but a few of the Ngatimaniapoto. Rewi is present, and Hauauru.
