WELLING TON. Situulay A fire broke out amongst some gorsp in th« Botanical Uardens to day, and desttoyed a largo proportion of a plantation of young tiis. The Fire Brigade succeeded in stopping the fire before it readied the main garden. A collision between a shunting engine and a passenger train was narrowly averted on the Hutt line yesterday. The drivers of both engines have beuu suspended. DUNEDLY, Saturday. The Canterbury Wanderers won the cricket match aga.ast the Carisbrook Club by two wickets. Carisbrook scored 201 and 139 ; the Wanderers scored 201 in the first innings, and made the required number in the second with two wickets to spare.
