Melbourne, January 1. The match belwoen the eleveu whit'h. is about to proceed to England, and a combined Victorian team, was couiniouced on the Melbourne ground this morning 1 . The Australian eleven then went in, and whun the stumps were drawn had secured G7 runs for the loss of two wickets. Scott and Alcllwraith wero not out. Mrs Sala, wife of the well-known journalist, died last night.
[Received Jan. 4th, 14pm] Sydney, Monday. Owixg to the heavy rains which have been falling, the Southern, railway line was washed away near Cootanumcla, close to where the disastrous accident occurred hist January. The railway officials, however, took prompt seeps to warn the passenger tr.iin which was due and the only resul L . was a delay of several hours in consequence of the damage to the line.
