THE BALDWINS.
PnoFKsson and Mu-> Bmdwiv gave the first of two entert nnments at Hainiltnn, in the Public Hml List night Taking the weather into account, there was ,i \ery good house, and the audience thoroughly appreciated the efforts of the piofessoi to mystify and nmiho them. Mr Baldwin possesses in a high degree the faculty of keeping his auditor-i intere-ted. His incessant flow f>f huuiouious t ilk ne\er seems to weaiy, while it frequently provokes bnrstrtof nierrnnent. The peiform.tnce was opened with the magic hand tuck, in which .1 metal hand, placed on a, sheet of gl iss, and apparently uninlhipnced by any human agency, ansssei-i. after the manner of the spirits, all soits of peitment nnd impeitinent questions. That is a tuck, howevei, the professor mikes n> *eciet, .is he dwtmctly dis.i\o\sn .vny .illi.ince with tlie beings of the unseen woild. To this »uccceded the wine .mil w.itei tuck, and the piofe>s(ir then deni >nstr it -d arid afteiwards exposed the celebrated iope-tving fe.its of the Davenport Brother, in thr> magic cabinet. He also introduced the pillory mystriy, winch he has promised to expose to night. IJ-it one of the chief fcituies of the entertainment w.ii tlio iiiiikl reading tcht->. In this the piofe~.sor m much superior to .Nti ]»iee, who recently vmtid thii nittiict, lim-unucli as the former occupies much le-.« tune than the latti*r, and 1^ sud to n\al the great ]Cngh<h p\ponent^ of tlm singular power, lising Bishop and Shunt (Jumb-'iland. After .successfully uudeipoing se\crftl te^ts on the pUtfonn, the profo-.«or was taken outride the hill by two of the committee, and on hi-> leturn, found in the of less than a minute a pin which had been concealed by another nieu.ber of the committee in the interval. Mim JJ ddw ill's " claii\oyancy " is .1 most peculnr feature of this weird nnd wondetful enf.ert numeiit. People in the audience merely think of questions of any kind that they wish answered by the clairvoyante, and upon Mrs lidd win bjing mesmerised and pi. iced in the trance condition, she. gix's rmrect replies to the mpnt il question, and then tells the question itself that was in the mind of the mterrog itor. All sort-* of questions wero thus answered— questions about marriages, lost or stolen goods, the whereabouts of absent friends, etc, until the audience were in .1 state of in.ue and bewilderment. Mr Hrctoi Licie, supplied the musical poition of the entertainment in a most satisfactory manner, though owing to the length of the programme, his \entriloquial powers wero not called into requisition. To night, the professoi and Mis Baldwin appeal in the same hall for the 1 \ft tune, in an entuely new (except the mind reading and elairvoyaney) progiamme including the " Katie King Mystery " 01 tho Materialisation of Spirits. No one .should ini->s the importunity of neein? the entertainment, which is certainly the best of its kind e\ei gi\en in this colony. The Professor will perform at To Awamutu on Friday and Saturdiv, at Kihikihi on Monday and Tuesday, and at Cambridge and Alexandra on dates yet to be advertised.
