THE JAM FACTORY. To-day's Meeting at Cambridge.
TO THE KDITOR. SIX, — Will you allow me to help in drawing the attention of your readers to the inoetmg (advertised elsewhere) to be held in Cambridge to morrow in regard to a jiun factory. Mr H. Cowjicr, of this town, has taken \ery great trouble to get together particulars of mode of woiking, cost of pl'Aiit, ifcc. ; and it is dun to him to give him an encouraging meeting to discuss the matter. The necessity also is imperative. The depresHion now felt throughout the country is so very great and so geneial, that we must all baud together to do the best tint can be done for the public good. The proposed factory will be a step in this ducction, and one surely within our power to take. It will be a means of ensuring a readier and more remunerative market for the present products of our orchards and gardens, and of saving much yearly waste. If the farmers and thoir friends will unite t >gether now in a small way to start t'ns factory, suppliers will bo en-vied a market for the coming season's fruit, and the receipt in a tew months of 11 good share of ready cash m return for their sales ; and mm - supplying shareholders will be doing .something to help the progress of the district and country and thciewith themsehes ; and all shareholders alike will hive a good promise of a satisfactory diwdend at the end of the ycai's transactions. I ha\e no niteiest in the matter beyond that of a citi/en, and no superfluous cash waiting for investment; but I feel sine the course proposed is the right one to follow, and I feel it a duty to give it ii citizen's suppoit. Let e.ich resident of the district who has its best interests at heart rest il\e that the eitablishinent ot the industry sh ill not be delayed a d iy through any luLewaimness on hi* part. If any dflay .sh ill now take place the opportunity will he gone for this year. If, on the other hand, we all give some help, however little, and gi\e it at once, ■•uct'M is as certain as anything in this world can well be. — I am, itc, Wm. X. hbL. Willis. S. Andrew's Parsonage, Cambudge, Septembei 2nd, IKS").
