THE HARVEST.

Thi-* yeai's lianc-t in the T.itn.ilierc, Cain bwclg.i ,uid Huutapu districts has ptovud about th« iii<i>t >ucceisf ul tli.it the farmeis have evei expeii* need. The aiea. m wheat and oats is ,ili-mt eqml to that of List yeai. Kveiywh v ie the grain seems of the hj^t qu ility, and as the neither has been exceptionally favourable, the produce is diy and nell saved, and compaiatively no damage whatever has been done. As usual, Mr Runeiinan'd crop at Jiroadir.eadovvs cometo the float. There weni about 400 acie*, a »mall propoition being nats, and the whole, when threshed, yielded over foity bushels to the acre. In some places this crop yielded fifty bushels to the acre. At several other places throughout the div tnct the yield was equally large. Should the market prove favourable, the farmeis will have no reason to complain of this year's operation*. We are pleased to notice that Mr Alln ill's new traction engine and threshing machine have been made a feature in this yeai's harvesting operation* in the distiicts abo\e rpfened to. The engine lias proved itself \ery serviceable in many ways. Threshing operations hay ing ceased on one farm, the engine is immediately hooked on to the machine, and in the course of a few minutest, according to the distance to be travelled, is again at work without any delay whatever. Under the old system the firo in the engine had to be extingm-hed nnd the water uin off. then the boiler hid to bo rehlled and the fire rekindled, and hours elapsed before nteani could be got up to recommence work. Dining the delay men were standing idle. The team of horses formerly required are aNn dispensed with, and in r\ery other respect the woik us more satisfactorily disposed of.
