Presbyterian Church Hamilton.— Watch Service and Picnic.
On Wednesday evening last a social gathering was held in the Presbyterian Church, Hamilton, and Has well attended by the members of the congregation aud their friends. The church was decorated with flowers and greenpry for the occasion, and had a very pretty effect. Refreshments were provided by the ladies of the congregation. The chair \va> occupied bv the Rev. \V. Kuebuin, and a programme of solos, part songs, etc., wa-> gone through by membeis of the choir and other-*. After the meeting a w.itch spruce, to welcome the New Yeir, was held, winch terminated shortly after midnight. On New Year •* Day the annual church picnic and Sundayschool treat was held in Mr J. B. WhyteV paddocks, kindly lent for the occasion, the children and others being conveyed thithei in conveyances provided by members of the congregation. Racing, jumping, swinging, kisi in-the-rmg, and other amusements weie indulged in, and tea, cakes, sandwiches, and the inevitable bun were dispensed with no nigg-ird hand. A stait was made for home about «i\ o'clock, all agreeing that the outing had been a mo.st enjoyable one.
