Just as Hearn was clearing the narrows Harrington's boat was .swamped, and he gave up the race aftoi coveiing about half the distance. Hearn then leisurely pulled home, the time being 30 minutes. There was the largest crowd of people that had evt r been "-pen in Kiveitou, mustering fully 3000 people. An impression got abroad that Hairinglon had been guilty of foul play, but tho-e who «aw the accident, and knew him best, including Hearn's own backer 1 ", scouted the idea, and agree that the swamping was purely accidental.
