Thi: steamer Waihora, which ariivod here this morning from Auckland, via. the East Coast, struck w>iue object about two this morning. The vessel was in charge of the second mate, stud wlien off Olio Point, near Capo Palliser, bhe was felt to strike some hard substance, apparently on the port side. The second officer at once brought the helm up, so as to put the steamei's bead to sea, and almost immediately Capt.iin Mclntohli, awakened by the shock, came on deck and had the pumps sounded, but the vessel was found to be making no water. After the first shock, fiom the peculiar vibration experienced, it was thought that the propeller had been injured by coming into contact with some hard substance. On arrival here, a diver was put to woik, and reported that one blade of the propoller was gone and another was slightly damaged. The surmise is that the broken bUde struck some heavy floating object, or else wao carried away through having a flaw in it. A preliminaiy enquiry was held this afternoon by the Collector of Customs, but no further particulars were adduced.
