MEKTING AT TK AWAMUfU. A MKnriNG of the committee appointed to devi.su means to have a return to the old time-table was held at To Awamutu on Tuesday. On the motion of Mr Ellis, Mr Walton took the chair. An apology was received from Mr J. D. Hill for non-attendance, but he fully sympathised with the object of the meeting. A letter was read from Mr Clark, of Cambridge, stating that most of those who signed the petition for the new time-table were not satisfied with it, and found that the old one was preferable. He also said that Mr Hudson was doing his be«t to meet the wishes of the settlers, but that he had been mi.sled by the petitions. It was proposed by Mr Ellis and seconded byMr Teasdale, "That.i petition to the Minister for Public Works be prepared, protesting against the continuance of the present time-t.iblo, and requesting a return to the old one ; and that steps be taken to have the district properly canvassed, in order to test public opinion." — Carried unanimously. Several minor details, as to how the canvass was to be conducted, and when the canvasser was to band his petition to the chairman, were discussed.
