MR W. K. CARTER'S LIVERY AND COACHING ESTABLISHMENT.
Thhuk are perhaps very few establishments in the Waikato that ha\e, dunng a comparatively bhort existence, e\perienced the Mine piospenty and ha\e been of the game public utility as this, the well-known lunio of which appears over this ai tide. Indeed, tlie '"Telegiaph Line" has been one of the recognised public institutions of the Waikato di-tiict, and the accommodation whicli Mi Caitui's establishment alfoicN to the ti.uellui'^ public, tiavelliMg thumgh all pa its of tin 1 di-tiict vvhete l.ulu.ijs have not v-t pi'neti.iti'd, and to the fnteiioi, is widely known, popnlai. and fully appitcuited. Within tlio past few yoais this popu] 11 cnnci 11 has ni.ulc very extensive slndus Fiom wh.it mi^ht be teimed a local institution it has developed into one of tlie m<iit seiviceable public institutions of Waikato and the inteuoi. Hefoie the ad\ >nt of tlie tiam into the Piako and C.unbiidgc distncts, Mr Caitei's coaches had the monopoly of the passcngei and mail ti attic on all the loads, and ti.uelleis never failed to be satisfied with the accommodation and consideiation which they weie always affoided. About two yeais ago the rapidly increasing 1 requnements of the tiavelhng public and the quick development of the touiist tiaffic called foi additional accommodation both in lespect of buildings and coaching plant, and the present capacious and handsome piemises at Cambiidge were accoidingly uioceeded with. TiiO'-e co\er a consideiable aioa of ground, and nffoid, in addition to the roomy coach-houses, stabling accomniodation of the most con, foi table character for about one huudied hoises. This includes a large number of lon&u-bnxes admirably :ippoiuted for representatives of the stud and turf. The coaching and buggy plant is well woith inspection. Mi Caiter has just impoited tlnee handsome coaches built to order by Messi> Abbot, Downing and Co., of New Haven, U.S. Therse aie constructed with all the latent improvements, are very attractive in appearance, of easy draught and comfoitabie, being specially adapted for rough roads. They are now in daily use, one having been placed on the regular mail service between Cambridge and Rotorua. " The Carriage "is a very popular conveyance, and during the tourist season is in great demand. There are also single and double-hooded buggies, covered waggonettes, open buggies single and double, Cortland waggons, drays, and a general variety of conveyances suitable for all purposes, tastes and requirements. Indeed, we may safely bay that the resources of the establishment are limitless. There are about 100 saddle and harness horses legularly in work, and these are of a quality sufficiently well known to Mr Carter's many patrons. Nor must we omit to mention the excellent staff of drivers, grooms, &c. ; the former being well and favourably known to travelleis for their carefulness, civility, and attention. A branch establishment has within the past twelve months been opened at Rotorua for the convenience of the travelling public of that district. Since the opening of the new Rotorua road, the traffic to the Hot Lakes District has been very great, the superiorty of the Waikato route and the excellent conveyances of Mr Carter's establishment having become universally popular. A large traffic is also done with Taupo and Wairakei, and the overland route to Napier via Taupo is now very generally favoured. Mr Carter is the successful contractor for the mail between Ohinemutu and Tauranga. These contracts commence on the first January. We trust that the prosperity which has attended the enterprise of the genial proprietor in the past will continue to be enjoyed, and that bis increasing efforts to meet the requirements of the travelling and tourist public will be appreciated in their true light.
The Tidy Housewife. — The careful, tidy housewife, when giving her house its spring cleaning, should bear in mind that the dear in-tgates-are more precious tban houses, their systems need cleaning:, by purifying the blood, regulating the stomach and bowels, and she should know that there is nothing that will do it foiurely as Hop Bitters, the purest and, best of tilt tyc<ucioes.
