PATERANGI CHEESE FACTORY.
Thi: directors of this company have taken a new departure in the dairying mdustrythey have purchased a ci earner, and will begin making butter in the com so of ten or t\\el\e day-'. Butter made in a f.ictoiy is superior to the geneiahty of butter made in small dairies, as it is of a uniform quality and is made by machinery. Merchants sue fully aware of this fact, and at. a. mle prefer buttei so iiiadfi to that made in dames. One Auckland house has offered to take .ill that is made in this factory. As a matter of course the operations of the factory will not be confined to butter making ; cheese will *lso be made, and it is'intended to keep pigs thi»> year. The prospects of the factory aie very blight indeed. The cheese made Inst season took so well that some of the Auckhouses will take over thirty tons at (id cash at the railway .station. This puce will pay not only the hUpphers, but the company also, for the directors have offered to make for ljd per gallon, a price which will pay, and at (id at the station a good maigin will be left for the fanners. Co-opera-tion i.s finding favour all over the world, and under certain conditions succeeds very well. As applied to such industries it should answer admirably ; in fact, I believe it is the only conect system. Factoiies worked on this principle can be woiked much cheaper than in any other way. As a matter of course, the suppliers li i\e to wait a longer time for their money, but if the cheese proves good they get a better price for their milk than if sold at per gallon. Sixpence delivered at the lailway .station is as good as 8d in Auckland, for there is neither fieight nor commission to pay, and the money is paid on dolivery, so that by waiting till tho choeso is ripe the suppliers get 4jd, less the trifle for carting from the factory to the station, which is far better than vHd monthly or quarterly, for at the outhide they will not have to wait more than four or five months. Some would like the directors to pay 4d, or more, for the milk, but the directors havo no right to pay more of the shareholders' money for milk than a private company, for it must be borne in mind that many of the shareholders live outside the district, and have no interest in it.— (Own Correspondent.)
