THE SETTLERS AND THE NEW TIME-TABLE.

* TO THE EDITOR. Sir, — I have carefully studied the arguments advanced by those who advocate an adherence to the present time-table, and I must say they fail to convince me. Take the two meetings held at Te Awamutu and Kihikihi for instance, and after sifting out all the unnecessary and uncalled-for vituperation indulged ,in, the only reason left is that farmers will not get their correspondence at these places in time to answer by 'next mail." those who, iv these hard times, know what chiefly constitutes the hulk of a si ttler's ' correspondence. This agitation would appear lo me to be fostered by a few tradesmen in these towns who, recognising the increased facilities offered to settlers for a speedy journey to, and return from town, see a slight dcci ease in their business, and are content to forego its advantages as regards their o\*n business arrangements for this lesson.
