SIR GEORGE GREY AND WAHANUI. [BY TELEGRAPH. — SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT.} Wellington, Friday Night.
A bather amusing story in reference to Wahauui, the celebrated Waikato chief, was related to me yesteiday by a friend. It appears that "Wahanui, who is now on a visit to Wellington in connection with the promised survey of the King comtry and other matters, met Sir George Grey a few days ago, and in the course of conveisation Sir George advised him to look round amongst the members of Parliament, till he found some one whom he could trust to keep him well informed as to what was going on in the House. On meeting Wahanui a day or two afterwards, Sir George asked him whether he had found any member on whose judgment he could rely for advice and assistance. The old chief, after considering for a moment, energetically replied, putting his hand to his breast, that the only person he could trust was himself (Wahanui), a remark which so staggered Sir George that lie did not seek to prolong the interview.
