THE AUSTRALIAN CRICKETERS IN ENGLAND. [REUTERS TELEGRAMS.]
London, August 25. Thk Australian Cricketers commenced a match to-day at Brighton ngainst eleven of Cambridge past and present. The following are the names of the homa team : — Hon. Lyttleton (captain), Messrs J. E. Studd, A. F. J. Ford, F. E. Lacey, . A. P. Lucas, P E, Roller, A. G. Steel, H. B. Steel, Whitßeld, C. H. Allcock, , and P. H. Morton. There was a very large attendance of spectators, although the weather was cold and inclement. The wicket was somewhat bumpy, and in favour of the bowlers. The Austra« Hans went in first, and all were disposed of for a total of 190, the highest scorers being Scott, c, 25 : Giffen, c, 34 ; Palmer, run out 23 ; Spofforth, run out, 42. The home team was less successful, and lo3t seven wickets for 47 runs when the play ceased for the day. Studd, run out, 14, was the principal scorer.
[Received August 27, 4.30 p.m.] London, August 26. The cricket match Australians v. Cam* bridge past and present was resumed today at Brighton. There was a large attendance of spectators, and the weather was fine, but the wicket was much cut up. The home team's first innings closed for 135. Whittield scored 21, bowled ; Ford, 34, caught ; Morton, 39, not out. The Australians went in a second time, and put together 181. Buinerman, c, 44, and Botmor, c and b, 36, were the highest scorers. The home team requiring 236 to win went to the wickets, and when play ceased for the day their score stood Sit 68, with seven wickets down.
