THE LAYING OFF AND BEAUTIFYING THE CAMBRIDGE DOMAIN.
Ik a previous issue we stated that- it was the intention of the Cambridge Domain Boaid to spend the surplus money at present in hand, some £250, in laying off and beautifying the Domain grounds. We also gave a detailed account of tho improvements which it was suggested should be carried out. The Board subsequently communicated with Mr Pardy, landscape gardner, and on Saturday morning the members met that gentleman and proceeded with him over the ground in the vicinity of the Lake, where it is proposed to concentrate the efforts of the board at present. The ground was thoroughly inspected and manysuggestions were made, by Mr Gwynneth C. E. also accompanied the party. It was decided to dam up the outlet of the lake and thus raise the water about three feet. Also to clear away tho weeds and decayed vegetable matter which at present make the lake so very unsightly. A walk will be constructed round the edge of the water. Steps will be formed leading up the banks, and seats will be constructed at intervals throughout the walks. The planting will be commenced this autumn. Mr Pardy ha 3 been instructed to prepare specifications for the work and to report at a future meeting of the Board.
The Waitoa Road Board call for tenders for the err#tion of a pound at Morrinsville. Mr Thos. Rothwell advertises a disclaimer relative to the Waipa ejection in another column. Messrs W. J.
