NAPIER, Friday.

Five chains of railway line were washed away at Waitangi last night by the encioachment of the Ngaruoro river. Traffic to-day is partially suspended. During the night the river broke through the beach, were works have been undertaken to open a Channel and the danger is now removed ot the ri\ er cutting into Almiin lagoon. The weather is clearing and rivers are falling. The suit of Grey v. Grey, for nullity of mauiagc has been discontinued by the petitioner, it being understood that she is unable te substantiate her charge.
