TAMAHERE FARMERS' CLUB.
At 'the meeting ot the Tamaheie Farmeis 1 Club, which took place on Friday List, it was resolved to send the following letter to the Chairman of the New Zealand Fio/.cn Me.it and Stoiftt^e Company, urging the completion of the works :— » Tamaheie, Waik.ito, June lOlh, 1884. To the Chaiiman of Director* the New Zealand Fio/en Meat and Storage Company. Sir, — The members of the Tamaheie Farmers' Club (many of whom aie shareholders in your company) lespectfully uige that you will push on with the prepaiation of the buildings and lefrisrerating plant with all possible speed so as to relieve the market of its surplus supply of meat and raise the at present uiinous pi ice which the farmer is receiving for his stock. It is not thought desirable to as>k for a vessel to be loaded at once fearing it might reault in another failure similar to the Mataura'.s cargo, but it ia hoped that you will get a ateanier despatched by the 31st Maich, 1885, for the purpose of conveying away lamb.s and dairy produce ; that time, allowing about fifty days to reach England, would place the caigo on the Home market at the very best season of the year. Your attention is also diawn to a clause in the prospectus of the company dated 18th July, 1883, which stares that ""The works will be commenced forthwith and the directors believe that within twelve months they will have their freezing plant, meat atoie^, market and expoit stores ready for use. ' The following letter from Mr Alfred Bucklaud re selling stock by weight was read :—: —
Auckland, Mjy27tb, 1884. Mr A. B. Wheeler, hon. sec , Tamahore. Dear Sir,— ln leply to your note of May 14th, Something has been done by the auctioneers to meet the views expressed by the deputation, inasmuch as both Mr Nolan and my»elf ha\c imported the machines, fc and I have been waitn.g the advent of Mr 9 Nolans machine bofoie setting up my own, and his ai rived but quite lecently. To carry out the pi oject fully, the cattle will have to be weighed and placed in sepaiate pens previous to the sale, in which pens, thoy will be sold. The cleuc.il vvoik in connection with the sale will also be seriously inci cased, and we propose making a charge of 4 % instead of 3 %, as, at piepent, and the necessary addition to the " yards and fixing the weighing machines _ will be pushed on as fast as it can be. But - if the Taaiaheie Fanners' Club think they I will receive moie money for their stock on account of this change in manner of selling, -I fear they will be disappointed. It is an outside market th.it is lequired, and I trust this will be found in the couise of next year, and my impression further is that, consequent on then being better fatted, the advantage will be on the p.ut of the shippers, and against the average cattle le.ceived fiom Waikato, and I will al>o add that opinions as to value of this change 'aro very much divided, and that thelaigest owners of stuck among us have expressed the opinion that no good will result fiom the change in the manner of selling. —Your-, faithfully,
Alkkkd Buckmno. . It was uncinimously resolved, "That Mr Buckland's letter be acknowledged, but the club expiesses its stiong dissatisfaction at the proposed incrense of 1 per cent in tlm charges, considering that the present rate is already sufficiently
