KIHIKIHI TOWN BOARD.
The ordinary monthly meeting of this Board was hold on Saturday evening last. ; Present: — Crs. Farrell, (chairman,) Wilkinson, Verner, Tristram, and Berry. Lyon and Whitmore Streets.— The engineers statement of the measurements of the earth works done in these streets by the contractor, W. Stuart, was laid by the chairman before the meeting, together with the gravel and labour accounts, as well as that of the other expenses connected with the Government loan of £200, from which it appeared the cost of the work exceeds (he regretted to Bay) the amount of the, loan by nearly £40, which would have to come out of the general revenue of the Board, and therefore it would seriously affect the annual estimate of expenditure contemplated by the streets committee at their last meeting. The Board after some discussion on the misleading features of the loJtfi estimate, considered the engineers excess, financially, most unsatisfactory, and they deemed it all the more so, as, at the closest computation it would yet take another £40 to complete the woi k left undone, and included in the original estimate of the loan.
Striking a Rate.— The board, on th motion of Cr. Wilkinson, seconded by Cr. Tristram, resolved, in conformity with Rating Act and Municipal Corporations Act, and amendment thereof, to meet on the 23rd June iust., to strike a rate of 9d in the £.—lt. — It was proposed by Cr, Berry, and seconded by Cr. verner, that application be made to the member for Waipa, Mr F. A. Whitaker, to have the Town Districts Act amended, so that a majority of the ratepayers voting at a poll might carry a resolution to raise a. loan.
