TE AROHA. [FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Te Aroha, Friday.

\T,mou;H this thstiict is de\oid of the wondcufui attractions of the Lake countiy, and our hot .spungs are less f.unous than those of Ohinenmtu, they have .still much to commend them to people in search of health. The curative piopeilies of the wateis me gi actually becoming better known, and the number of persons who have derived benefit from the use of them m rheumatic and othei complaints is sufficient pioof of their excellence. Moieover, the locality is healthy and easy of access, and the cost of living it. moderate in conipauson with the exorbitant demands made upon the puise in thp hotels of the Rotorua district. With proper caie and under wi.se management, the .springs will aid hugely ni furthering: the prospeiity of the township, and it is pleasing to note that an eifoit is now being made to render them moie attiaothe as well as moie generally useful than they have- hitheito been. The -£500 gi anted by Government some twelve 01 fifteen months ago having been found insufficient to effect all the impiovemenls that were tlien contemplated, a fuithei sum of £200 was given, and this money is now being expended with nuich judgment and discrimination by Mr H. Crump, C.E., to whom the designing and diieclion of the works, now in hand have bpen entrusted. The old bnth situated a little dibtance behind O'Halloian's? hotel has been reconstructed and made much larger and more commodious. A galvanised iron building, containing a shower bath and dressing-rooms, has been erected over it, and other minor dctaiU have been planned for the comfort and convenience of pet sons using it. The large reservoir at the opposite s-ide of the grounds has also been improved and lendered useful for tbepurpose for which it was intended, viz., the storing of hot water from several of the spring-.. When first excavated there was a considerable inflow of cold water as well as h t, and tin ough want of funds nothing could then be done to separate the warm springs from the cold. This has now been effected by means of conciete walls, and the hot water thus procured will be canied tin ough the pipes laid down to the large bath house erected sometime ago, and which it is now intended to set apart solely for the use of ladies. Other improvements are in progross, and when all are completed, bathing will be a luxury which we have not hitherto experienced here. From all quarters come complaints of fhe scarcity of pheasants, and in this neighbourhood they are no more plentiful than elsewhere. Our most enthusiastic sportsmen think " the game is hardly worth the candle," and have laid aside their guns in disgust. ' Some excellent bags of ducks have been made, but with the nobler bird (in a sporting sense), nothing has been achieved. The Blue Ribbon people here are still vigorously carrying ont their special mission, and the ladies have now commenced active out-of-door operations. Parties of them are canvassing the district for signatures to a petition to the Legislature praying that females may be allowed to vote in the regulation of the liquor trade. The document has been largely signed, and if the crusade is being carried on everywhere else as resolutely as it is here, there it> every probability that their object will be gained. Those who have been praying for rain expected yesterday to have their wishes gratified, Two or three smart showers fell in the afternoon, but not enough to do much good, and to-day tha weather has been as serene and beantiful as before,

MrJ.A. Stichbury, instructed by the Bailiff of the R.JM. Court, Te Awamutu, will sell on Thursday next, at his rooms, three horses. Mr W. IJ. M. Lovell gives notice of his in tentlon to apply for the transfer of the license of the Taupiri Hotel to, new premises. A quadrille party will be held at the Oddfellows' Hall, Hamilton East, this evening. A harp is engaged.

Rats and Mioe.— lf you wish to de stroy them get a packet of Hill's Magic Vermin Killer in packets, 6d, Dd, and I*, to be obtained of all storekeepers, or from T. B. Hill by enclosing- an extia stamp.

Lifk in the Bush— Then and Now.— It is generally supposed that in the bush we have to put up with many discomforts and privations in the shape of food. Formerly it was so, but now, thanks to T. B. Hill, who has himself dwelt in the bush, if fpod doci consist chiefly of tinned Yneats his GoLq^iAL Saugk give* to them a most delectable flavour) making them as veil .of the plainest food niqst enjoyable, > and instead '-•is bard biscujfs^ an^jnajg^stible "da.Tpper^his.'lj>i- \ JRoyß^COL^ttW^wijtsJ(3|*Po\yjhtH x ii(^l/x&'lha
