HAMILTON PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH.
SOCIAL GATHIRtN'G. A social gathering was held in the Presbyterian Church, Hamilton, on Tuesday evening last, for the purpose of meeting with, and wishing farewell to several families of the congregation who are on the eve of leaving Hamilton, namely, those of Mr C.iwkwell, Mr K. McDonald, and Mr Gelston, and to express to Miss Cawkvvell their grateful sense of her gratuitous Hervices at the harmonium. A large number of the congiegation and several friends were present. The ladies dispensed the tea, &c., in such a genial and happy manner a? made everyone look cheerful and at home. Afterwaids a lengthy piogrammo was gone through, consisting of short speeches, interesting and amusing, by the Roy. Mr Neill, Mr Heniy, and Mr Runciman, sacred pieces of music and other choice selections by Mis>« Alsop, Mrs Home, and Miss Trewheellar ; song by Mr W. Mitchell. The event of the e\ ening foimed an interval in the programme. The pastor of the church, after addressing those about to leave in affectionate terms, regietted that they were about to take their depaiture from* amongst them, and commending them to the guidance and blessing of God, presented to Miss Cawkwell a silver suite, a souvenir from himself and congregation, expressive of their sincere Christian regard. On behalf of Miss Cawkwell, the gift was acknowledged with the remark that her services were cheerfully rendered, without thought or desire of reward, to help the church financially, that it was a labour of love for the sake of the Master.
SUNDAY-SCHOOL TRKAT. On Wednesday afternoon the children of the Presbyterian Sunday-school assembled at the church with their teachers, and inarched down to Mr McLernon's fields, where they were feasted, presented with gifts and prizes, and had a real good time. There were many of the parents and several friends present. Young and old united together in contributing to each other's enjoyment. There were 95 children, and 25 adults present.
