CAMBRIDGE ROAD BOARD.
The ordinary monthly meeting of this board was held at the Ciiterion Hotel, Cambridge, on Saturday afternoon List. Present: Messrs Jus. Taylor (chairman), Smith and Forrest. Financial. --The clerk stated that the financial position of the board was anything but satisfactory, there being no less a sum than £244 on the debit side of the ledger. It had been erroniouslv stated at the la*t meeting that the board was an almost equal amount in credit. Thi: Si'akkow Nuisanok.— This subject was again brought forward by the clerk reading the communication forwaided to the vatious other boards in the distnct on the matter, In reply to some of these communications an opinion had been expressed that the county council was the proper body to undertake the task. The Kirikinroa board had expressed its willingness to share the coot of carrymg out the scheme, and gave as its reason for sharing in the above opinion that it might be necessary to stiike a special rate to meet the cost, The Tamahere board had also expressed its willingness to share the cost and otherwise co-operate, providing the spending of the ratepayeis' money in this way was legal.— lt was accordingly decided to give effect to the proposal when the proper season arrived in the manner suggested in the resolution as adopted at last meeting. Hautapu Pound.— The engineer submitted a plan of the site of the new pound at the wove place, The freehold of the site had bean purchased for 4}lQ. The con•truction of the new pound would be com* plete in every particular. Accounts.— Accounts amounting to £01 17s 8d were passed for payment. Drainage.— The question of improving the drainage of the road in the vicinity of Mr Dougherty's and Mr Selby's farm was brought iorward by Mr Forrest, who thought that as soon as money was available, this work should be undertaken, as it seriously affected the propei-ties of the gentlemen named. Of course they had no money in hand now ; indeed, they were badly on the wrong side of the iedger ; and consequently the ratepayers could not expect that they should make their financial portion worse than it was at present. — A tettei' was reserved lroin Mr Selby on the matter complaining of the damage which, the public drain was doing to his land. Road Repairs.— A letter was received from Mr John Runciman, regarding the repair of No. 2 cross road ; and also drawing attention to the fact that during the goming autumn and winter at least 100 tons woultf foe carded over the road. He also 'irew attention to the Fen Oourfe station road which demanded the attention of the Board before the winter set in. Mr Forrest considered their financial position a reply to all such applications. All works would have to ba deferred until they got more money. Thig was all the business.
