CRAWFORDS GULLY.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir,— As you will see by advertisement, we have been forced to completely" close traffic across Crawfords Gully except for foot passengers, and they must climb two fences to get over. This may seem arbitrary, but it is absolutely necessary, as mobs of cattle have crossed, wo have no doubt somo of them over the culvert, and no later than yesterday afternoon a member of the board drove a lot (some 20 or 30) of rams across, all of which, except two, went over the concrete. On Sunday a young man, who was no child, rode up and deliberately, in the presence of the plasterer, kicked off two of the raised letters which had been put on the day before, saying, *" By Jove; it's softer than I thought." His head, we should imagine, was very soft. It is well for him that we cannot lind out his name, or an interview with Mr Northcroft would certainly result. How is it that men will be such arrant fools as to deliberately destroy works of this, kind ? We intend to keep a watch, and if anyone is caught interfering with the work, prose.eution will surely follow. It is quite unbearable that sxich things should be tolerated. If any permanent dau.age were done to the culvert the cost would certainly be very heavy, and traffic delayed for a considerable length of time. We trust that this warning will be sufficient to prevent any further vandalism. — We are, &c, Sander and Napper, Hamilton, 18th Feb.
