REMODELLING THE TEACHING STAFF CAMBRIDGE HIGH SCHOOL.
to mi? union. iSm, — In yoiu issue of the 18th in t t. a lettoi .ipijcii >» over the .signature of " Agncola," in which that gentleman, in a very laino 'way, tues to fence theiiguies quoted by " Justitia/' wljon writing of the desirability of leinodelling the teaching .stalf in the Oambiidge High {School. This lettei fiom " Justitia" appear^ in answer to "A Settler's'" letter, who stated, " 1 do not suppose there is a better conducted or more piospeious school in thecountiy." " Agricola," who, by the way, seems to bo closely identified with "A Settler," wntes, " ' Justitia' endeavouis to show that the Cambridge East school Jias not coiuiiiip to the slandaid of an avei age 1 good bclio v 6l of the colony. It will be difficult to perwaade paieuts that such a .statement is true." This fencing would no doubt piejudice the nundfe of jiaients of children, but by adhoiing to the iigmes of " Jn^titia" it ih shown the' school does not come tip to the average schools' of the colony. " Justitia" writes, " h\n the year ISB2, out of 87J7!) children on the 101 l in the colony, 35 % passed .some standard. 'Tliose passing some standnid in Cimbudge East school wad 34.21 %, being nearly one pei cent, bclown the avorago school." Huuin cmque tubuto. This statement from " J ustitia" places the teacher's success before the school committee ■ and the pufolic in its tine colours, .urns at the very soul of the school, lays baie its ualceduess, takes the school fiom the high pedestal fiom which it has been unduly placed, clothes it in suitable habiliments, adorned with a leather badge, inscribed theicon, Coloniae scholas infra medias. It is of the utmost importance for "Agiicola" to contiovcrt these figures if they be not correct. " Justitia" says the figures aie all conect. "Agncola" id mute — the public is astounded at the expose" — fnetfi are facts notwithstanding. Thanking you for your valuable space. — I am, &c, Icxohamus.
