Fire. Auckland, Wednesday Night. A house owned by Mr Luther, a farm hand employed by the Rev. (4ideon .Sm.iles, Tamaki, has been burned down. It Mas insured in the National for £200.
Death in the Police Cells. Ah old toper named Robert Foreshaw died in the police cell to-day. Mayoral Installations-
Mr Waddell was installed Mayor of Auckland, and Mr MuKenzie Mayor of I'arnell to-day.
Wool Sale. At Mr Buckland's wool sale to-iliiy bidding was brisk. Prices ranged from 5-Ul to 7d.
Sudden Death, Information has been received here of the sudden death of John Black, aged 20, a native of Glasgow, who has been employed at Tairua Mill since April. On Sunday morninji deceased was bathing with others beside Tairua wharf, when he was observed to grasp the stringers, and appeared unable to speak. His companions plunged in and assisted him on the wharf, by which time he was quite dead. They state positively that his head did not go under water during the occurrence. Deceased has no relations in the colony.
