THE TE AROHA MAIL SERVICE.
The following requisition to the Chief Postmaster w as put in circulation in Hamilton yesterday, and was largely .signed by th,e business people and all interested in the progress of the new goldfield :— To S. B. Br*s, Esq., Chii r Postmaster, Auckland. We, the undersigned, residents of Walkato, beg respectfully to bring under your notice the pressing' need for a change in the present Te Aroha mail service, by the substitution ot a daily foi the present tn-weekly mail. The growingimportance of the Te Aroha goldficld^, and the consequent increase of correspondence between that district and Waikato, demand that increased postal facilities should be afforded.— We arc, &c. Similar steps have been taken at Te Aroha. r S/itwday's News says :— A petition is now iyojng signed by most of our leading citizens, as»kjng for a daily mail service between Hamilton and To Aroha. It is almost needless to say tha^ $he accomodatfott asked for is urgently req»irsd. It has become apparent that an important eeniie is about io be established at Te Aroha, and a lai'ge population will be located heLe within a veiy few months. The present arrangements are not worth of the name of a " mail service," so uncertain is the delivery of letters at either end. We understand that our active member, Mr J. B. Whyte, lecently interviewed the Auckland postal authorities, and was assured that the matter would be represented in a f av<H«'a)?le light to the department in Wellington, ti»e nostmaster at the same time suggesting tnafc thfi initiative should be taken by the settlers. Mv Thomas Wells, always foremost in useful public' work, has charge of the petition, and will probably forward it to-day to Auckland.
The partnership hitherto existing: between Messrs Paddy and Wallace, * blacksmiths and .agricultural implement' makers, has been dis.r solved by mutual consent. The business will in future bo ' carried on by Mr J, Paddy, vrtao will, pay all debts due by and receive all debts due to 'the fat* Sm». -, . ' ■ > ' ' <-I t
