Affairs in Madagascar.— Mr Shaw Released. Loxdox, August 25. The latest intelligence from Madagascar announces that the British Consul has been reinstated at Ta-natave, and has received due recognition at the hands of the French authorities. News received from Mauritius states that Mr Shaw, the British missionary, who was arrested at Tamatave, and detained on boaid a Fiench inan-o'-war, has been discharged tiom custody.

The Frozen Meat Trade. London, August 21. The steamship lonic has arrived at Plymouth from Lyttelton, which port she lett on July 10. The cargo of frozen mutton is reported to be hi excellent condition.

The 'Frisco Mail. London, August 26. The homeward mails via. 'Frisco, which left Auckland on the 16th July, were delivered in London to-day.

Commercial. Londov, August 23. Consols declined to 100^. New Zealand socialities remain at labt quotations. The whe.it market is dull, and to effect sales lower prices must be accepted. Today's quotations are : —Colonial breadstuffs, Adelaide wheat, ex store, 4Ss ; New Zealand wheat, ex store, 44s to •48s ; Adelaide flour, 345. Australian tallow has advanced by sixpence per cwt. Best beef is now at 40s 6'd, and best mutton is at 40s Gd ; best Sydney sundried copra is quoted at £20 10s, an advance ot 10s per ton. The tttal quantity ot wheat afloat for the United Kingdom is 1,700,000 quarters, an advance of 50,000 dining the week. At ye&teiday'B and to-day's wool sales, 23,000 bales were catalogued. The market is rather firmer, and a good demand is experienced.
