RUMOURED SERIOUS DAMAGE TO THE TE AROHA TRAMWAY.
On Saturday morning a rumour prevailed in some parts of this district to the effect that serious damage had been done to the tramway worka at present in course of progress at iVaiorongomai by the heavy weather experienced in that locality last week. It was confidently stateel that the large tunnel recently cut through the heavy landslip had been washed away, in which case damage to the extent of £1000 wonld have been done. The chairman of the county council, at Cambridge, Mr J. P. Campbell, communicated with Mr H. H. Adams, engineer-in-eharge of the work, on the matter, and lias elicited the following reply, which is very satisfactory :— " Te Aroha, July 28th. Report incorrect. Both ends of tunnel covered by landslip. Will be repaired next week. Damage net serious."
