WAIPA COUNTY COUNCIL.
The above council held their ordinary meeting at Ohaupo on Tuesday, July lOfcli. Present: Mr 15. Lake (chairman), Crs. Germann, Tisdall, Teasdale, Giice, Bruce and Steele. — A letter was read from Messrs Kny and other ratepayers of Orakau ie the bad state of the road between Kihikihi and the frontier. Resolved that a telegram be sent to Mr J. K. Whyte, M.H.R., to get the Minister for Public Works to empower the council to repair the road at once, Mr Kay to be notified of the action of council. — Mr Lang, Tuhikaramea, wrote a letter, covering resolutions re the suspension of Counties Act. The letter was ordered to be acknowledged.— Messrs Knox and Corboy wrote, asking for information re amount of rate to be collected. .Resolved that time for tenders be extended till next meeting.— The Under-Secretary, Colonial Secretary's Department, wrote, intimating that the time for the making and revision of county rolls had been extended. Agreed that the members of council take the rolls of their respective ridings, and compare with road board rolls, make the needful corrections, and forward them to the clerk that they may be sent back to Wellington for completion. — The engineer's report on the state of the main loads was n-ad, and it was resolved that the Monavnlo culvert be rebuilt of brick, the engineer to ask Mr Walker if he will contiibutc 30 per cent of cost if erected on deeper level, if not, culvert to be made on present level. The engineer was also directed to see Mr Gifiord, and ascertain whether a deviation of the road between lots 16, 37, 18, 19, can be made by the council at a reasonable cost, and if so to make preparations for carrying it out. Repairs were authorised to the Rotoranui road to the extent of £20 ; also to Kikikihi road, approaches to Havelock's bridge, culvert at Mr Krippner's gate, culvert at Mr Hale's, Ohaupo road, opposite Macf.irlane's, and Cowlcy's Gully.— Cr. Germaun proposed, and Cr. Tisdall seconded, "That the council take the necessary steps to have the lower Mangapiko road from Alexandra to Te Awamutu, and the Great South Road from Hamilton to Ngaruawahiti, proclaimed main roads, and that the council grant to the Newcastle and Mangapiko Boards, £40 each board, to be expended on these roads to the satisfaction of the county engineers."— Carried. Plans of roads to be closed in the Hamilton road district were submitted to council. Cr. Steele moved, Cr. Tisdall seconded, " That the roads as shown on plans be closed in compliance with the desire of the Hamilton raetpayers."— Carried. A large number of accounts were authorised to be paid.
