Hamilton.

Tlic District High School was opened yosteiday, in tic presence of a number ot people, bu', with the exception of a sli »i t spejcli Ijy tlie chairman of the Hannltjii East School Committee, Air Yon Stunner, there was no ceremony. Mi Yon stunner said he was glad to see by the presence ot so many ladies and gentlemen that the people of Hamilton took a huaity inteiest in the opening of the school. It had been determined by the committee tlut as the cluirinau of the Board ot Education could not attend, owing to the sittingb of the Supieme Couit commencing on tiiat day, theie should be nothing in the shape of a public demonstration, Had Mr Laishley come up it was their intention to specially invite the Hamilton West School Committee, the Mayor and Council, the chairmen and members of the County Councils and the Kinkiriroa and Hamilton Road Boards, and the public generally by adveitisement. He need not speak to them about the advantages to be derived from the school, but he would impress upon them the fact they could all assist in forwarding its interests by inducing their friends to avail themselves ot its benefits. They could not expect the Board of Education to carry it on at a loss. They should all put their shoulders to the wheel and help it forward, He was, glad to know that they started with a fair prospect of success. Nothing now remained for him to do but to introduce the head master of the high school proper to the ladies and gentlemen pi osent, He hoped they would accord him a hearty welcome, and heartily suppoit him, Mr BJndon was then introduced, and tho proceedings torminated, The following is the list of the pupils at piesenton the roll, but it is expected the number will be increased to 30 before long : — Girls. — Misses Searancke (2), Bradley (3), Cawkwell (2), Sandes (2), Cochrane (2), Biggs, Campbell and LeQuesne. Boys. — Masters Seddon, LeQuesne, Gelling, Hume and Yon Stunner.
